The location of Thornthwaite, near Keswick in the English Lake District

The village of Thornthwaite is located just 3 miles from Keswick and 5 miles from Cockermouth. The village is by-passed by the A66, the main route through North Cumbria. Jenkin HIll Cottage is screened from any traffic noise on the A66 by the natural landscape.

The M6 motorway (junction 40) is about 25 minutes away and the West Cumbrian coast is also just 25 minutes drive away.

Jenkin Hill Cottage is very easy to find:

From M6 motorway take junction 40 (A66) exit. Follow A66 towards Keswick for approximately 17 miles and continue past Keswick.

From Keswick (west bound), take the A66 towards Cockermouth. On passing Braithwaite take the left turn signposted Thornthwaite Village and Gallery. Continue straight along this road for approximately 1 mile where Jenkin Hill Cottage is clearly marked on the right hand side, 200 yards past a telephone box and bus shelter. It is the first house on the right in the village, proper. Look out for the Jenkin Hill Cottage sign!

From Cockermouth (east bound), take the A66 towards Keswick. About 300 yards after the end of the dual carriageway by Bassenthwaite Lake take the first turn right, signposted Thornthwaite and Gallery. Continue straight along the road. Jenkin Hill Cottage is 100 yards past Thornthwaite Garage, on the left hand side of the road. There is a "Jenkin Hill Cottage" sign right beside our car park.
